This is our unit plan.  Under the unit plan is a brief outline of what we do in class each day.

Learning Targets for the Unit: I CAN…explain the causes, effects and long-term impact of U.S. involvement in Cuba's independence (Spanish-American War). I CAN...infer if U.S. intervention abroad between 1890 and 1917 were motivated by realism or by idealism. I CAN..evaluate if the U.S. expansion & imperialism from 1890 to 1917 was justified. I CAN...look at one historic event from multiple points of view. I CAN...analyze primary sources to better understand an historic event. I CAN...write arguments to support claims using valid reasoning and relevant and appropriate evidence. Essential Question(s) for the Unit: When & why should one country intervene in the affairs of another country?

2/26 2/27 3/2	American Diplomacy	1. Read the U.S. as a Global Power text handout (on yellow paper) and complete the "American Imperial Diplomacy" chart 2. Large group lecture/discussion on Imperial Era diplomacy 3. Go over isolationism & anti-imperialism 4. Short Documentary (select here for link) - watch and complete "Knew-New" notes - make a t-chart on a piece of paper.  As you watch, briefly note anything the video covers that you already "knew" about American Imperialism.  Also detail additional information that is "new" to you or helps you to learn additional details about information you already knew.
